We had a leisurely morning pack up today since our drive to Kings Creek Station is only 300kms. The boys enjoyed one more morning at the playground with all their campground mates, most of whom were heading Kings Canyon way today as well. Check out time was 10am and we weren’t too far behind pulling out at 10.30am.
We stopped for a quick lunch at the turn off to Kings Canyon and checked out the map of the Red Centre Way, which is where we are headed – Kings Canyon, Meerenie Loop, West MacDonnell Ranges and then on to Alice.
Kings Creek Station is home for the next 2 nights, we were originally going to stay at Kings Canyon Resort but changed to the Station after speaking to Stevie & Leah who’d stayed here on their big trip and loved the place. We can see why, this is a working station and the staff are a mix of back packers and permanent staff who have so much time and information to offer travellers.

Our campsite is called Iron Knob, all sites are red dirt and
really well spread out and positioned to use the trees for shelter from the
afternoon sun.
After setting up we took a walk around the other sites and then up to Tank Hill lookout, which overlooks the vast station behind and the ranges out the front.
