Day 19 - Longreach & The Stockmans Hall of Fame

Brolga's in the paddock next door to camp.
(Thanks for the name of the bird, Mum!)

Not much grass in Longreach.
The caravan park, after morning check out.

A slow morning in camp, relaxing, having cuppa's and doing some washing.

Then it was off to the Stockmans Hall of Fame for a look around.

When we arrived we were reading the poem above and noticed a goose up the hill, how lovely ...... until...... it raced towards Mitch, yes once again an angry goose chased Mitch.

There were also a couple of kangaroos chilling in the shade of the tree.  Kangaroos are everywhere, at the caravan park there were a couple in the paddock where the brolga's were.
The very angry goose, chased us away.

The revolving entry door was great fun at the start.

A family ticket (2a/2c) is $82.  There is a lot to see, we were there for about 4 hours but could have spent a lot longer without the boys.

They were interested in lots of areas, but didn't want to stop and read every board.

I would definitely recommend a visit if you are near Longreach.

The Jackie Howe singlet, named after the fastest ever shearer.

Old school phones and a Furphy Water Cart (Like your Dad's Ben!)
So true.

Declan doing morse code.

Mitch flying the RFDS plane.

Toddy you're famous again!

Listening to the Flying Doctors information.

We went in to town for lunch and walked the main street for a look around while we were in there.

Stockmans Hall of Fame gives you a wrist band and you can leave and come back as you please.

After lunch we spent another couple of hours at the Hall of Fame.
Love this sign - Ringers & Jillaroos!

Last night we dined at the Starlight Tavern.
I thought it was called "Pokies Bistro" lol

Mmmmm pies - check out Merino's Bakery if in Longreach.

Who would have thought that "Galah Street" would have a park on the corner with trees filled with noisy white galahs!

Before heading back to camp for happy hour, we went and checked out the free camp at Riverside Park.    Just out of town on the river is a huge free camp, we could not believe the number of motor homes and vans set up out there.  There would have been at about 60 vans there.

Riverside Park free camp.

The sites are dirt, the same at the caravan park but there is only one male & one female toilet and no showers.

If we were only doing an overnighter would have definitely saved the $44 we paid for a powered site and stayed out there but we needed some creature comforts for our 2 nighter.

After some afternoon antics it was time for a delish dinner of chicken and salad wraps while the sun dipped down over the caravan park.
