Day 6 - Yulara (Ayers Rock Resort)

Yulara - Ayers Rock Resort Activities & a bit of The Rock

Today was spent in and around camp, we had some washing to do so in between loads we went and enjoyed some of the many activities on offer at the resort.

Declan ready to throw his spear during this mornings lesson.

First off was spear throwing, then the boomerang - happy to say the McLeod's are all good boomerang & spear throwers.

Mitch just after his spear was launched.

Scott taking aim.

If we are ever stuck in the outback, it's good to know Scott is a great spear thrower and will catch us a feed.

Everyone looking off into the distance to see his spear going, going, gone!

Then it was my turn......

I too could catch dinner, the animal would have to be closer though.

Artistic Pause

Declan in action for boomerang throw.

After lunch it was didgeridoo time.

Both boys enjoyed playing the Yidaki (didgeridoo).  Mitch was playing the star wars theme by the end of his turn.

After our activities (& washing) we headed out to Uluru and bought our 3 day park pass, $25 per adult and free for children up to 16 years, very cheap for the facilities, information, guided walks etc. on offer.

Scotty Irwin ready for action.

After looking through the Anungu Cultural Centre and learning centre we headed back to the sunset viewing area where we set up to watch the sunset.
Scott setting up the go pro for some shots of Uluru.

Dec and Mitch helping set up the shot.

We enjoyed our afternoon drinks with the rock as our backdrop, the boys enjoyed being up & playing on the roof  while Scott set up for some time lapse photography.

Afternoon bar snacks by the rock.

Beautiful boy - amazing clouds.

Mitch flying high with stunning sky behind.

Unfortunately the cloud cover rolled in which meant we got some great cloud shots but no colour on Uluru so we had to ditch our sunset plans for today.

We headed back to camp for early showers, home made pizzas and some relaxation.
Playtime at the rock - what a beautiful backdrop!

  1. Pity about the clouds but you have a couple more days to try for sunset.

  2. Love your story and pictures. Just like being there without the long drive. Your four poops a walk dog sends her love as well.

  3. All goose bumps bringing back the memories of my visit out there. One of the most magical places. Hope the clouds stay away for your photos next time, but you can't capture the feelings on film.
