Day 14 - West Mac's Continued

Day 2 at the West Mac's to check out Standley Chasm and Simpsons Gap.

First stop was by the side of the road 10kms out of town for this good looking young man to clean our windscreen, hopefully now all the photos taken in the car won't have a great big bug in the middle of them!

The boys were using this time to devour the Roald Dahl books we'd bought at Kmart in Alice the day before.  The books were going to be for big days in the car, but looks like we will have to grab a few more books for these book worms before we leave town.

At Standley Chasm we noticed that there were no National Park signs when we drove in or in the car park.

Standley Chasm is no longer run by National Parks and is privately run and they charge a whopping $25 for a family to access.

After this pic, Mitch said he'd show us how to dismount.
A bit of a fail as he landed flat on his face and cut his arm.

Mitch showing that he was his own risk.

Strong men Strong men.

If there is a rock face there, it must be climbed!

Standley Chasm was one Gorge I had been looking forward to revisiting after my trip here 15 years ago, so we were happy to pay for the right to access the area.

The boys wanted to climb up high into the chasm as my brother Rob had done when we visited.

Unfortunately you can't go very far up the into the actual chasm and we felt the $25 was excessive for a very average walk.

Last stop for the day was Simpsons Gap, the day was getting late and we almost skipped it.  But as we neared the turn off Captain Scotty put on the indicator and said we are going in!

Thank goodness he made that decision to check it out as Simpson Gap was fantastic, a short easy walk from the car park and we were there.  We all enjoyed some rock hopping / parkour action on the way in and out.

Tonight we joined up with Toddy's Tours for the final time.  Toddy had heard about feeding the Rock Wallaby's just up the road from our caravan parks at the Heavitree Caravan Park on the corner.

So we met up and headed to feed the wallaby's, in at reception we bought a few bags of wallaby food and waiting for the wallaby's to come down.

Didn't take long and everyone had a wallaby or two or three eating out of their hand.

Nature Boy Mitch wanted to take one home.

After the Wallaby feeding we went out for a farewell dinner, as the team from Toddy's Tours heads back south to Coober Pedy and then making their way home and for us to start our trip North after one more day in Alice.
