Day breaking at Mitchell. |
Sadly, this morning as we pack up camp in Mitchell, it feels like we are on our way home and the trip is drawing to a close.
We are headed to Inverell for the night via St George, Mungindi, Warialda and lots of small country towns - another 600km drive.
|
Sunshine streaming onto camp ready for our pack up. |
|
Kangaroo procession. |
A procession of 20 kangaroos hopped across the road up ahead of us - they looked like a video game as they just kept coming and coming.
|
A reminder to keep focused on the road. |
|
Using each other as a lounge - reading in the car. |
|
St George Weir |
St George Weir was our morning tea stop and and chance for the boys to have a run around at the playground - ready for another couple of hours in the car.
|
Cleaning the sand out after the playground. |
|
Cotton country |
|
Nindigully Pub - loved the "Free Beer ....... Yesterday" sign. Would have enjoyed a night here as it was highly recommended. |
|
Back in our home state - NSW! |
|
Food fight with our stale sandwiches. |
|
The police were watching us. |
Lunch stop was at Garah about 1/2 hour from Moree. Garah consisted of the Cotton Gin, Pub, Police Station and a few houses.
Tonight we are staying at the Inverell Caravan Park, highly recommend this caravan park. $28 for a powered site, really clean amenities and plus we got a couple of complimentary drinks at Easts Bowling Club which is just up the road.
We had decided to eat out in Inverell anyway, so headed up for dinner at the Bistro. Great feed at Easts!

The Meat Tray won at Easts @ Inverell |
Even better were the Friday night raffles. While Scott went to the bar, I bought some tickets for the raffles.
After our meal, the raffles started and the boys watched and waited as each number was drawn out, the suspense was almost too much.
After about 10 prizes one of our numbers came up - Yippee, we won a large meat tray!
Thanks Inverell, great town, great caravan park,
super friendly people plus we won a meat tray,
We have stayed at the free camp at Nindigully Pub twice, Great spot, good pub, good food. The "Road Train Burger" has a 1.2kg pattie in it and costs $50. It feeds 1 - 4 people. Needless to say we didn't order that.
